NOWAC The New Outlook Wilderness Adventure Camp |
|
New Outlook Wilderness Adventure Camp is an outdoor wilderness experience led by the same staff that have led Boys Rites of Passage. NOWAC is for young men who are mature enough to handle a week of backpacking, camping, rock-climbing, repelling, and white water rafting in the North Georgia Mountains. These activities and others will be part of the planned expeditions, which the campers will experience during the week. Young men in this program will have an abundance of fun and have the opportunity to learn first-hand the importance of teamwork and dependability as they adjust to life in the wilderness. They will be working together sharing equipment, carrying gear, preparing food, and shouldering the many group responsibilities. Over the course of the week, staff leaders will provide increased autonomy for participants to take responsibility and make decisions. The campers will be challenged in a safe, supervised environment while continuing their path into manhood. Through the NOWAC program, campers will mature with experience, develop increased self-discipline, self esteem; respect for themselves, peers, and authority; the importance of cooperation under stress; and an appreciation for diverse perspectives. Participants will be offered opportunities to: increase their appreciation for nature; realize their commonality with other males; experience the direct consequences of their actions; and connect with staff, peers, and self. The young men will be under the guidance of experienced adult role models of success, leadership, honor and integrity. |
